Check out the pictures below of the fresh veggies from our garden and from a volunteer's garden - made into healthy, nutritious salads for our clients.

Moveable Feast & Fueling Good

Let the voting begin!

For the next few weeks, we need the power of your click. The folks at CITGO are awarding 12 charities with a gift of a $5,000 Gas Card at the end of this first voting period, and Moveable Feast is registered with the hope of being one of them. We do a LOT of driving to further our mission - 75,829 miles worth just last year. Fuel for our vans = meals for our neighbors in need, and now you can help by voting for us every day from now through August 11!

Click here to vote for Moveable Feast.

Click here to receive daily reminders in your email to vote - we promise not to email you after August 11th.

Farmer's Market Benefits for BaltCo Senior Citizens

Here at Moveable Feast, we love sustainable, local agriculture. Support local farming efforts through farmer's markets! Here we share a great bit of news for Baltimore County senior citizens.

This summer, Baltimore County senior citizens (residents above 60 years of age) can get vouchers for county farmer's markets.

"A booklet of six $5 checks is available to any county resident more than 60 years old whose income meets standards based on the federal poverty guidelines," according to the Baltimore County Department of Aging.

Additionally, beginning on Monday, July 18th, each of the county's 20 senior centers will distribute vouchers from 9:30AM to 3:00PM. If you qualify, stop by and pick yours up. There are only 908 vouchers for the entire county, so be sure to come by early.

Baltimore County health officials hope that this will both encourage healthy eating among older folks, as well as support local food producers.

P.S. Did you know that Moveable Feast has a garden program? All the fruits and vegetables harvested are used directly to feed our clients in our nutritious meals and groceries. The staff make trips to the garden weekly - contact us if you're interested in joining!

Haussner's - New German-style Microbrewery?

Moveable Feast has moved around a lot. Thankfully, in 2009, we came to be housed in our permanent location - 901 N. Milton Avenue, the site of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Community Center. Newly renovated by HEBCAC with a state-of-the-art kitchen, spacious administrative offices, ample storage space, and gracious conference rooms...our headquarters have come a long way.

Haussner's Restaurant, an iconic Baltimore eatery, closed its doors and "served its last strawberry cake" on October 6th, 1999, before becoming Moveable Feast's home in the new millennium from 2000 to 2004. We operated out of the kitchen that once churned out classic meals for Charm City.
Moveable Feast volunteers working out of the kitchen at Haussner's.
Now, a new future may be in the works for Haussner's.

Brewer Stephen Demczuk has plans to turn the old restaurant into a German-style "guest-house" with a microbrewery and an attached deli.

The Southeast Community Development Corporation is in favor of the plans, saying they would "love to get a brewery back in Highland town."

Here at Moveable Feast, we are excited to see the thrilling options for our previous home!
